Frequently Asked Questions

What is the application timeline?

Applications will open in early Spring Semester of each year, with submission instructions posted on the Dickson Award Webpage and a deadline in mid-March. A review committee will be formed with reviewers selected from among the current faculty at UC Merced, with the Vice Provost of Academic Personnel (or designated representative) chairing the committee. A finalist will be selected and submitted to the EVC/Provost for final approval by the end of each Spring Semester.

Can I apply if I plan to retire at the end of this academic year?

All prospective candidates must be a current emeritus at the time of application to be considered eligible. If you have not obtained emeritus status yet, you must wait until the following year to apply.

Are Dickson Funds able to be used across multiple years?

When applying, each applicant should indicate a plan for usage of funds within the year they are awarded. Funding extensions may be granted in some cases but are not guaranteed.

What can these funds be used towards?

Funding can be used to support ongoing projects or initiate new ones in teaching, research or service. Dickson funds are not intended to provide bridge funding, retain consultants, or provide summer compensation.
